Sunsari district is 152 to 914 meter high from average mean sea level which includes the high sloppy hills at North to flat terai region at south. This district lies in the Eastern Region of Nepal with three municipalities and 49 VDCs within it. Its total area is 1257 km2 in which the areas of target VDCs ie. The project fully focuses on the livelihood support with helping the poor communities with income generation activities. Nirdhan NGO as an implementing partner of Save the Children has been directly involved to meet the objectives of the project. The project focus on income generation activities based on off-farm/non-farm and on-farm activities to increase income of the rural poor family through skill development, suitable product development, market linkage, technical backstopping and microfinance services by forming self reliant groups at community level for their sustainable livelihood development. Initially, the targeted communities are facilitated with the on-farm activities according to their potentiality. The target members are encouraged and interested in livestock activities rather than cultivation due to the lack of irrigation facilities. Also the people are highly migrated in the areas due to the border and youths are out of the VDCs seeking the job. Thus, there may be labour deficient in case of vegetable production.
